Skeleton

It's Black Saturday, and I'm sitting here in my bed typing my first b2 post.

Pero wala yan. Yesterday, Good Friday, I was on duty. Ortho rotation. I monitored patients with external fixators for twenty four hours. From 9 to 11:30, I was in "edema rounds" with Dr. C, the surg resident, who later asked me if the baguio beans we ordered for lunch had pork, but that's another story. That guy throws far-out but important questions. And he has his distinct way of making boljaks without raising his voice or being rude.

But you'd still feel stupid nonetheless.

I also monitored two patients in the Medicine ward - one's a victim of electrical burn, and another with osteomyelitis. Good thing they're Q4, which means their vitals and intake/output should be measured only every four hours. Unlike Wednesday, I was on duty at the Philippine Orthopedic Center ER, and I had a Q15. Grabe dun, broken bones everywhere. But the food and the people were great.

But I digress.

I know most would find it gross, but I don't really mind wound dressing. I've never dressed something like this though. Yesterday, my groupmate A asked me to assist him, and he accidentally dropped his new handkerchief in the patient's foot! The look in his face was, like in the Visa mastercard ad, priceless.

I really like my patient, the 55 year old vehicular accident victim, and his wife. They're great people. They never fail to say thank you, and they call me "doc" even when they very well know I don't have MD after my name yet. That's music to my ears. I'm also the "back" of my groupmate who's on duty on odd dates, and her patient, a 15 y/o burn victim who underwent skin grafting, is a very appreciative kid too. If only for them, staying up for 36 hours per duty is worth it.

And then the announcement: today, Black Saturday, skeleton. Off at 8 am, not 5 pm.

I was planning to blog about my ER stories. Last day was my most toxic - first brain attack patient, first major boljak. Patient with hammer-shaped laceration on the frontal bone because his brother hit him with, well, a hammer. Oh, and ran after him with a samurai too. And yeah, I just had to ask him why they "love" each other that much.

But if I do that, I'd just miss ER more.

And my favorite bed in the Diarrhea ~~Transmission~~ Treatment Unit.

In the words of my ~~prim and proper~~ wonderful boyfriend, it's more fun to sleep in the wrong places.
