"Ahm....Code?"
I am a part of the group that will rotate at the **** ****** ******** ******* ******* Medicine department on December 1-8.
Wow. And we knew about it only this morning. I mean, hey, if they were going to throw us to that side of Manila, the least they could have done was tell us days earlier so we could have prepared ourselves for the challenge.
Today was my first day. And ten minutes after the orientation, a nursing student came up to me and said, "Doktora, si room 53, nag-arrest."
And there was no resident in sight. P*nyet@. Well, what did I expect? The endorsement I got from the previous batches was, when there's a code, you do everything yourself. So after assessing the patient, I had no choice. I stood on the stool, and started compression, all the while praying that a resident magically appears so he could guide me.
Thought balloons:
"1 & 2 & ... shit, mababaw ata pag compress ko ah."
(After ordering epinephrine) "Me five minutes na ba? Oo, meron na. Sabagay 3-5 minutes naman yun eh."
" Wala talagang heartbeat. Naman, asan ba residente."
Thank heavens the resident arrived a little while after. After about 20 minutes, 5 (I think) epi given, he pronounced the patient dead.
Oo na. Wala akong kupas. Pati dun, I was an angel sender.
