It's hard to be happy when you don't feel good about yourself.

My Kind of Man

From an email:

In a brief conversation, a man asked a woman he was pursuing the question "What kind of man are you looking for?"

She sat quietly for a moment before looking him in the eye and asking "Do you really want to know?"

Reluctantly, he said "Yes."

She began to expound...
" As a woman in this day and age, I am in a position to ask a man what he can do for methat I can't do for myself. I pay my own bills. I take care of my household with out the help of any man...or woman for that matter. I am in the position to ask "What can you bring to the table?"

The man looked at her. Clearly he thought that she was referring to money.

She quickly corrected his thought and stated "I am not referring to money. I need something more. I need a man who is striving for perfection in every aspect of life."

He sat back in his chair, folded his arms, and asked her to explain.

She said, "I am looking for someone who is striving for perfection mentally because I need conversation and mental stimulation. I don't need a simple-minded man.

I am looking for someone who is striving for perfection spiritually because I don't need to be unequally yoked...believers mixed with unbelievers is a recipe for disaster.

I need a man who is striving for perfection financially because I don't need a financial burden. I am looking for someone who is sensitive enough to understand what I go through as a woman but strong enough to keep me grounded.

I am looking for someone who I can respect. In order to be submissive, I must respect him. I cannot be submissive to a man who isn't taking care of his business. I have no problem being submissive...he just has to be worthy. God made woman to be a help mate for man. I can't help a man if he can't help himself."

When she finished her spiel, she looked at him. He sat there with a puzzled look on his face. He said "You are asking a lot."

She replied "I'm worth a lot."

I am worth a lot.

Community Medicine and The Cuanang Paradise

Monday

Orientation. Met up with the boss, Dr. R. Got assigned to different groups. Late lunch with groupmates at Chef D'Angelo in Galleria. Tried Sampler #1 - very Bunch of Lunch. After having my staple coffee-based rhumba frap, went to Megamall to watch The Last Samurai with Roy. I know some people didn't like it, but hey, I had fun. :)

Tuesday

Left school at around 8. Never ending kwento on the way to the Antipolo. Arrived there at around 9:30, made a courtesy call at the mayor's office, then met up with Dr. P, leader of the Ligtas Tigdas project there. It was the first time we discovered we were going to help with the thing. Went to one community, Kalakad, in the afternoon supposedly to teach the Community Health Workers (CHW) but nobody was there. Turned out there was miscommunication - the CHWs were told that the meeting was scheduled on Thursday, not Tuesday. Went to the staffhouse, which, surprisingly, is very nice and cozy - all it need is a fireplace and it can pass for a Baguio rental house.

Visited Dr. Cuanang's property right beside the staffhouse. Passed through his Pinto Gallery. Dr. Cuanang was my professor in Neurology sophomore year, and back in August, my back had a patient under him. When he made his rounds, my back was absent - I became the IC (intern in charge) of the patient. Syempre, boljak. The thing is, it's almost impossible to get mad at him. When it comes to Neurology, siya ang batas. But I digress. Anyway, we visited his vast property. Since I am still clueless on how to post pics in my blog, you can see some pictures here.

I love the jacuzzi in the tree house! We took a lot of pictures, most of the time posing like idiots. :) Kuya Andy, the JI coordinator and one of the house artists in the staffhouse gallery (Silangan), is a really nice man who ended up reading everyone's palm. I don't really want to believe in hula but I must say he's very impressive. Sa kin na lang the details but he really hit some spots especially those concerning my fears.

Dinner was delicious Arroz ala Cubana prepared by Group B. :)

Wednesday

Woke up early because I volunteered to be a part of a "apolitical" medical mission. When we arrived at the place, okay, big banners bearing the name of a candidate's wife was all over the place, supposedly to greet her because it was her birthday. Had fun nonetheless. Highlight of the morning was when a woman kept bugging me. Conversation went like this:
"Doktora, papabunot po ako ng ngipin." "Dun po kayo sa stage, andun po mga dentista natin." "Hindi na daw po sila nagbubunot, tapos na daw po." "Ah, ganun po ba" "Doktora, pabunot naman" "Hindi po ako nagbubunot." "Doktora sige na naman, pabunot ng ngipin." Ang kulit! :)

After taking a nap in the afternoon, went back to The Cuanang Paradise again. Talked to Kuya Andy again, and he gave me a reassurance. Advised me not to think and fear too much.

Dinner was sinigang and okoy (ukoy?). That early, I was beginning to feel my waistband tightening.

Thursday

Woke up to a delicious champorado with tuyo. Doctor Karen from the WHO gave a lecture on measles, then two Filipino doctors whose names I can't remember offhand followed. Socialization with the CHW followed. Won in charades. :) It was also today when we found out the whole month was going to be immunization month - no clinics in the Barangays, just immunization from 8-to-5 the whole week.

I will keep my mouth shut (fingers tied?) for now for security reasons. I will blog the whole story later.

Anyway, dinner was left overs from the previous days. :)

Friday

Our turn to prepare breakfast. We served adobo we cooked the night before. Ok, I just helped in the slicing and tasting, but hey, I was the one who cooked the rice! I know it isn't much, but it's a big leap from, say, just adding water.:)

Went to Phase 5 (community), turned out there was miscommunication again, vaccinated from door to door, then went home (for the past few years, Manila's been my home). Returned the ct scan plate I had my mom reproduced (spoiled? Nah, it's just that I don't have time to go to Makati Med just to reproduce a plate the frigging nurse gave the patient when he was discharged), passed by SM to buy food, and now after a long, long week, I'm sitting in front of my laptop, having Black Bean drink, blogging like crazy. :)

Oh, by the way, I also took pictures of paintings by the house artists in Silangan gallery.
